[Inspiration]

24 Jan

While having a lunch time blog hunt I came across these rather amazing images.

Struggling with inspiration at the moment but these at least made me feel a bit better.

[Miss Dior Cherie]

17 Jan

The whole world has been taken in by the striking Natalie Portman since the preview of her new film Black Swan. I can definitely see why Dior has opted for Natalie as the new face of  Miss Dior Cherie! Even topless she embodies sophisticated innocence, and if this is the typical Miss Dior Cherie girl, I definitely want a bottle!

[Comic to Counter]

15 Jan

Here’s a fact I bet you weren’t expecting: I love comic books, DC in particular. My dad collected them as a child and we have a draw full of them at home, perfect condition. If Blake Lively (who I love) and my comics were in a burning building, I would go for the comics first (paper burns fast you know). Obsessed some might say. I’ve seen every comic related film out there, including of course the Marvel ones. Indeed I’m writing this while wearing my Wonder Woman pyjamas.

To put it frankly I couldn’t be much happier about this new MAC Wonder Woman collection. According to Temptalia.com this 32 piece collection will be hitting the UK in March 2011 – starting at Selfridges. I saw a sneaky peak in Vogue’s Catwalk Report and I’ve been lusting every since.

The red lipstick in particular is my must-have. I’m very into the Parisian Chic flick of eye liner and the bright red lips (as seen on the Miu Miu SS11 Catwalk) at the moment and this Wonder Woman lipstick will be perfect! The packaging looks amazing, like toy makeup I always wanted to play with as a child.

[Brits A La Westwood]

14 Jan

So the Brit Award nominees were announced last night at the O2 Arena. To be honest, although there is some great UK talent that’s not what I’m blogging about today. News came about that the usual glossy gold statue presented to winners was having a bit of a restyle – every year from now onwards a leading British designer or creative will be creating their own unique trophy – And who to choose for the first restyle? British fashion legend Vivienne Westwood of course!

The 2011 Brit Award stays true to her British punk roots using a Union Jack-style toga dress to cover the mini Britannia statue. With Westwood being Westwood the award supports her environmental beliefs with the slogan “Stop! Climate Change” emblazoned on the bottom.

“Vivienne stands for all the things we want to inspire in tomorrow’s generation of artists,” said Brits chairman, David Joseph. “She continues to be unique, innovative, not to mention massively inspired by music and vice versa. We’re honoured she accepted our offer of designing 2011’s trophy.”

I have to say I will be tuning in on the 15th of February just to see the award in action. Go Vivi!

[Kate ‘pop art’ Middleton]

So Kate Middleton, future Queen of our fair country, graced the February cover of Tatler Magazine in an Andy Warhol style print.

I’m not sold on it. Thoughts?

[January Jones]

12 Jan

Over dinner last week the subject of Vogue got brought up, moving very quickly onto the new Versace campaign starring Miss January Jones. I was quizzed by my friend on why such a striking campaign hadn’t been mentioned on my blog. I had no answer. So here it is “Wiggly Worm”:

On screen, as the star of Mad Men, January Jones is known for her impeccable ’60s style. In her role of Betty Francis, the glacial blonde, former-model and frustrated ex-wife of ad man Don Draper, always requires a perfectly polished wardrobe of the decade’s finest fashions. So when the one and only Donatella Versace was looking to cast the face of Versace’s spring/summer 2011 campaign, which references the spirit of the Sixties, Jones was the obvious choice.

Shot by Mario Testino, Jones stripped down this season for Versace’s spring 2011 accessories campaign. Wearing nothing more than the label’s oversize bags and sleek sunglasses, January is a clearly Versace girl through and through.

[Pantone Preview]

11 Jan

Do you want to know the colours you will be wearing come spring time?

Well I can do one better! With the undying love for Pantone, the worldwide authority on colour, I can tell you EXACTLY what colours and shades you will be wearing.

Spring Summer is always a nod to foreign lands with consumers wanting to wear tropical colours to add brightness into their damp days. This season saw designers in all four Fashion Capitals using intriguing colour combinations in their collections – so be prepared!

First we have the flirtatious Honeysuckle colour, a perfect post-winter pick-me-up. From Issa to Nicole Fahri and Mark Fast this playful pink palette was featured everywhere. It didn’t stop there with this feel-good hue finding its way into the cosmetics. Christian Dior, Jil Sander and Fendi all showcased bold pink on lips and eyes.

For sophisticated orange its all about Coral rose. Always the darling spring summer shade the deep colour suits every skin tone. Betsey Johnson went down a honeyed yellow route with Beeswax where she was joined by Matthew Williamson, Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg. A firm favourite with florals.

Tommy Hilfiger stuck to what he knows with Regatta, a vibrant way to add zest into your wardrobe. Versace, Burberry Porsum and Roksanda Ilincic all headed for the blue hue too. Paying homage to the Pantone 2010 Colour of the Year (Turquoise) tropical Blue Curacao was seen in London at Mark Fast and Christopher Kane while Peter Pilotto decided to use all blues.

Romantic and fanciful Lavender was on hand for the designers who didn’t want to take the plunge this season. Seen a lot in Paris and Milan this muted palette subtly took consumers into Spring Summer. Being a huge colour for cosmetics too, this shade cropped up at Roksanda Illicic and Etro.

Adding an organic element into the palette the yellow-green Peapod was used. A similar colour to new bean sprouts this colour reminded everyone of what Spring is all about. Teamed with the trans-seasonal neutrals of ethereal Silver Peony, deep Russet and Silver Cloud, these nude hues are the quintessential colours that consumers can rely upon to coordinate with their wardrobe. Used on the Samantha Ronson, Alberta Ferretti and YSL catwalks these nude colours will be basis for everything.
